If you tune in to the 2019 Indianapolis 500 on May 26th, you will undoubtedly notice the 33 powerful racecars ready to compete for one of racing’s most coveted titles. But you will also notice the car that leads them all, the Official Pace Car for the race. This year, it will be a 2019 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport.
Neither Chevy nor its Corvette is a stranger to the Indianapolis 500. Chevrolet has provided the pace car for the race a whopping 30 times; of those 30, 16 races have been led by the Corvette. Officially, Chevy holds the title of most Indy 500 pace cars at the brand level, and the Corvette holds the same title at the model level.
“Chevrolet is honored to lead the way for the 500 once again,” remarked Steve Majoros, director of Chevrolet passenger car and crossover marketing. “The Grand Sport is a particularly excellent choice as its wide body and aerodynamic features are steeped in racing heritage.”
The 2019 Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport pace car will stand out on the track thanks to its long beach red metallic tintcoat with specific GM Design Indy 500 decals. It will also feature racing blade silver dual strips and ride on 19-inch Grand Sport front aluminum wheels and 20-inch Grand Sport rear aluminum wheels.
Here at Buds Chevrolet Buick, we recommend you keep your eyes peeled for this very special ‘Vette during the Indy 500 later this month.
